Membership Applications

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the National Society of Film Critics.  Please be aware that the Society is not an umbrella organization for all qualified full-time critics; on average, only about one in four applicants is elected, based on quality of writing.

To apply, please send to NSFCmail@gmail.com copies of or links to five pieces of film criticism (reviews and/or essays) published in 2024 and/or 2025. You should also provide a cover letter telling us about yourself, your work, the outlets you write for, why you want to be a member of the NSFC and anything else you think might interest the group.

Applications are due by end of day Friday, July 18, 2025. Your application will go the Membership Committee and, if approved, will be forwarded to all NSFC members, who will have roughly a month to read them and vote. We hope to announce our new members by the end of August, if not sooner. If what you send is in a language other than English, kindly provide translations for the pieces you send.

Please note that critics cannot apply in two successive years.
